Doctors
Every GP has an annual review where they are offered advice and support in developing their skills and career path. Almost all of our GPs have a portfolio career with another area of interest such as GP or Medical Student Training, Medical Politics, GP with Special Interest (Gastroenterology, Palliative Care, Substance Misuse Dermatology, Gynaecology, Emergency Medicine), working for NICE, Occupational Health, working with the pharmaceutical industry and research.
Within a year of obtaining CCST, we encourage GPs to become a Local Medical Director who work with the support of the Organisation Medical Director, Mark Ashworth. They also work alongside a Practice Manager based on site, and a Senior Manager who has oversight on all Hurley Practices in that borough. Each practice has its own LMD providing leadership to the team and ensuring that clinical services are exemplary.
Our LMDs feel this is an innovative post that allows them the ability to accept a comfortable level of responsibility but also to exercise professional autonomy and learn how to run the practice. There is an enhanced income for this post and the opportunity to benefit from a stake in their practice’s performance and profits. Furthermore, a model is being developed with existing LMDs where they can be promoted to Practice Partners giving them an ongoing stake in the performance of other group practices.
