Sanjay Patel

Primary qualifications: MBBS BSc MRCGP DRCOG

Sanjay qualified from the Royal Free and University College Medical School in 2008. He became a GP in 2013 training on both the Lewisham VTS and the City and Hackney VTS programmes.

Sanjay is a GP trainer for the Whipps Cross VTS and the GP representative for the Leyton Collaborative Primary Care Network. This involves a collective approach for improving health services locally, and the recruitment and support of First Contact Practitioners.

Sanjay started working for Hurley Group in 2018 and became the Lead GP in 2020 for SMA Medical Centre. Following a previous inadequate CQC rating and cancellation of registration of the previous provider, Hurley Group was awarded the contract for SMA Medical Centre and Sanjay has been instrumental in leading the turnaround at the practice, resulting in significant improvements in clinical standards and patient outcomes.

Sanjay became an Associate Partner in 2021 and subsequently a Partner in 2023. He is passionate about maintaining high standards of clinical governance, practice development and a continuous drive for quality improvement in the delivery of GP services. He has a keen interest in medical education and currently supervises trainee GPs along with Clinical Pharmacists, Physician Associates, First Contact Physiotherapists and Paramedics.

Outside work Sanjay enjoys the theatre, travelling and spending time with his family.
